Mabon is a fire-led food festival in the historic grounds of Caldicot Castle, built around the autumn equinox and the traditions of gathering, feasting and cooking over flame. More than a standard food event, it brings together fire kitchens, live demonstrations, seasonal produce, folklore, music and conversation in a setting designed to feel rooted in place, season and community.

Hang Fire Cook

At the heart of the festival are Sam Evans and Shauna Guinn of Hang Fire BBQ, who created and curate MABON alongside Street Food Circus. Their influence shapes the whole event, from the fire-first food offering to the chef line-up, live demonstrations and the wider atmosphere, giving MABON a clear identity grounded in serious fire cooking, Welsh produce and shared experience.

The Perfect Duo

Sam and Shauna are long established names in British barbecue, widely recognised for helping bring authentic slow and low barbecue to UK audiences through Hang Fire BBQ. At MABON, they are not only hosts and curators, they are central to the experience itself, leading the Blaze Stage, appearing in the chef line-up, and hosting the Mabon x Hang Fire Feast, an exclusive four-course fire feast served under canvas.

The festival also brings together a strong line-up of chefs, producers and fire cooks from across Wales and beyond, alongside fireside talks, a produce market and folklore-led elements that tie the event back to the meaning of Mabon itself. That combination of live fire cooking, seasonal food and cultural atmosphere gives the festival its distinct character and sets it apart within the UK food and fire calendar.
