A safer approach to cooking outdoors.

At Kadai, fire is at the heart of what we do. We believe in the joy of cooking outdoors, gathering around the warmth of the fire and making the most of time spent outside. But with the ongoing wildfire risk across the UK, it is essential that fire is treated with care, respect and responsibility.

Following recent Government warnings around the very high risk of wildfires, we want to share clear guidance with our customers on using your Kadai as safely as possible during this period.

The UK Government has advised residents, landowners and visitors not to undertake any activity that could start a fire, including disposable barbecues, firepits, garden incinerators and fireworks. Even a small flame can develop quickly in dry conditions, putting people, homes, wildlife, businesses and emergency responders at risk.

As a barbecue and firepit business, we take this extremely seriously. During this period of heightened fire risk, we strongly advise customers to follow official guidance in their local area and to avoid using any open naked flame where restrictions are in place.

Our Current Advice for Kadai Customers

Until the wildfire risk has reduced, we recommend that customers do not use firewood in their Kadai. Wood can produce sparks and floating embers, particularly in dry or windy conditions, and these can increase the risk of fire spreading.

We also advise customers not to use their Kadai on the Low Stand as a firebowl at this time. If using your Kadai for barbecuing at home, it should only be used on the High Stand, positioned on flat, stable ground and well away from anything that could catch fire, including dry grass, decking, sheds, fences, trees, hedges, garden furniture or overhanging plants.

Please do not use your Kadai in open countryside, parks, woodland, moorland, beaches, public spaces or any area where barbecues or open flames are currently restricted. At this time, we recommend using the Travel Kadai at home only, on a stable, fire-safe surface and in line with local guidance.

Before Lighting Your Kadai

If you do light your Kadai at home, please follow these essential safety steps:

- Use your Kadai only on level, stable, fire-safe ground.

- Keep it well away from anything flammable.

- Do not use it on decking, balconies, dry grass or enclosed spaces.

- Ensure there is at least 3 inches of Kadai Beads in the base of the bowl.

- Use charcoal only during this period, not firewood.

- Keep a bucket of water, sand or a garden hose nearby.

- Keep children, pets and garden games well away from the cooking area.

- Never leave your Kadai unattended while it is lit or still hot.

After Cooking

Once cooking has finished, allow the fire to die down safely and keep watching the bowl until the embers are fully under control.

Where suitable, cover your Kadai with the Shield to help extinguish the flames and allow the embers to die down safely. Alternatively, lightly dampen the hot ash with a fine spray of water until the bed of embers is wet and no longer steaming.

Do not throw water directly onto a hot Kadai. The sudden heat reaction can create excessive steam, which may be dangerous, and can also affect the metal.

Do not move, empty or clean your Kadai until it has fully cooled. Smouldering ash and embers can remain hot for a long time after cooking and should always be treated with care.

  • Seafood paella on a bbq
  • Kadai fire bowl with fitted metal lid.

A Shared Responsibility

We know how much our customers enjoy cooking outdoors, especially during the summer months. But in periods of very high wildfire risk, safety must come first.

Good fire cooking is about patience, awareness and control. By following official advice, using the right fuel, keeping your Kadai properly positioned and never leaving the fire unattended, we can all help reduce risk while protecting our gardens, countryside, wildlife and local communities.

We will continue to monitor official guidance and update our customers where needed. In the meantime, please use caution, follow local restrictions and only light your Kadai when it is safe to do so.
